Show a free shipping coupon in your Shopify cart

1. Decide whether a code is needed

If every qualifying customer should receive free shipping without selecting anything, consider Shopify's automatic discount option. A public code is useful when shoppers should discover and choose the offer in your cart. Compare the approaches in our automatic discounts vs codes guide.

2. Create the shipping discount in Shopify

1. In Shopify admin, open Discounts, create a discount, and choose Free shipping.
2. Select the code method and enter your campaign code.
3. Set the permitted destinations and any maximum eligible shipping rate.
4. Choose the purchase threshold, customer eligibility, usage limits, and campaign dates.
5. Review combinations if another discount should work alongside it, then save.

A maximum shipping rate and a minimum order value are different conditions. Check Shopify's free shipping discount instructions for the available settings.

3. Explain the offer before publishing it

For an illustrative campaign called SHIP75, a useful title is “Free standard shipping on orders of $75 or more.” Add the destination restriction to the description, such as “Available for eligible US deliveries.” Use your actual currency, threshold, destinations, and shipping service; the example is not a ready-made discount.

Avoid “Free shipping on every order” when the promotion has a minimum spend or delivery restriction. Keep private or customer-specific shipping codes out of a public offer list.

4. Add the code to Coupon List Lite

1. Find the active code under Available Shopify discounts and add it to your selected offers.
2. Enter the public title and conditions, then enable the storefront list and the required cart placement.
3. Click Save and publish in the app.
4. In the theme editor, enable App embeds → Coupon offers and save the theme.

The illustrated setup guide shows the merchant controls. Selecting a code in the app does not change its discount value or eligibility rules.

5. Check the delivery result at checkout

Test a cart below the threshold, a qualifying cart, and a delivery outside the campaign area. If the offer can combine with another code, repeat the test with that code applied. Enter a delivery address and inspect the available shipping rate before payment; the cart alone may not contain enough delivery information to confirm the shipping benefit.

When Respect coupon eligibility rules is enabled, an offer can be hidden if eligibility cannot be confirmed. A hidden offer and a rejected shipping discount require different checks. Retest after editing shipping or discount settings, and remove outdated campaign copy from the public list.
